Hoen & Company, established in Baltimore in 1835, was the oldest continuously operating lithographer in the United States, from 1885 to 1963. The building then sat vacant for 35 years after the company’s bankruptcy and has been repurposed as a mixed-use complex that provides job opportunities, job training, and neighborhood amenities called the Center for Neighborhood Innovation.
Supported by Cross Street Partners, I designed the Phototex wallpaper with Alpha Graphics. The design includes images from the original lithographs produced in the building during the time of its operation. Cross Street wanted a design that was bold, colorful, spoke as an original work of art using archival prints from the collection. Printed on Phototex by Juan Rhodas. Photos by Tiffany Thompson.
